How to Turn Off Norton Antivirus Update. Symantec Corp. develops and distributes antivirus software, such as the Norton AntiVirus program. The software provides reliable protection against computer viruses, spyware, Trojan horses and other malignant programs. By default, the Norton AntiVirus program automatically downloads and installs virus definition updates as frequently as each 5 to 15 minutes. Depending upon your computer configuration the frequent Symantec automatic updates may slow down your system as well as cause a network interference with uploading/downloading of user files. You can turn off the automatic updates for Norton AntiVirus to solve this problem.

Instructions

1. Click on the "Norton AntiVirus" icon on the Desktop in Windows to bring up the program window.

2. Click on "Settings" in the "Computer" section to open the setting window.

3. Scroll down the list of settings and find the section labeled "Updates."

4. Click on the status indicator next to Automatic LiveUpdate to turn it "Off." It will disable "Pulse Updates" as well.

5. Click "OK." Choose "Permanently" from the drop-down menu.

6. Click "OK" to apply changes in update settings.

Tips & Warnings
Use the button "Run LiveUpdates" in Norton AntiVirus to manually update your program.
