How to Best Configure Avira AntiVir's

How to Best Configure Avira? Avira AntiVir's default settings are enough to keep your computer protected from malicious infections, for the most part. No "best" configuration for Avira Antivir exists, because users have different needs and therefore different modes of protection. To get the best level of protection from Avira AntiVir, however, you can alter the program's settings so that the antivirus program is more vigilant about detecting possible threats.

- Open Avira Control Center. Click "Extras" and then click "Configuration." Select "Expert Mode." Click "Default Values" before proceeding.

- Go to PC Protection. Select "Scanner Priority" and set the value to "Low" to use other applications while running the scanner. Set the value to "High" to reduce computer performance but finish the scan sooner.

- Check all of the options below "Additional Settings." Expand "Scan" and then go to "Heuristic." Click "High Detection Level."

- Expand "Scan" from beneath "Realtime Protection" and then click "Heuristic." Set the option to "High Detection Level."

- Click "General" and then click "Threat Categories." Check "Fraudulent Software" and "Programs That Violate the Private Domain."

- Click "OK" to change Avira to its best and safest configuration.

Tips & Warnings

- To increase protection, check all of the options on the Threat Categories page. Keep in mind, however, that Avira will block all of these options -- including games and unverified applications.

- Setting Heuristic to "High Level Detection" may cause Avira to detect false positives.
