Tips to Install Windows Antivirus

Antivirus applications provide efficient computer protection and peace of mind. Microsoft Windows' proprietary antivirus software, known as Security Essentials, provides system protection against common computer infections. The program is designed to inspect new and existing files and manage potential threats in real-time. Prior to using the application, you must configure it on your computer using its user-friendly installation procedure.

Step 1: Remove any existing antimalware software before installing Microsoft Security Essentials, as it may cause the program to perform poorly. Go to "Start," launch the "Control Panel" and click "Uninstall a Program" from the "Programs" category. Alternatively, click "Programs and Features" if using the "Large Icons" or "Small Icons" perspective, as opposed to the default "Category" view. Select the program in question and click "Uninstall."

Step 2: Launch the Microsoft Security Essentials installer (Mseinstall.exe) from the location in which it was saved. If you do not yet have a copy of the program, it is freely available from Microsoft's official website (see Resources).

Step 3: Click "Next" during the initial "Welcome" screen of the setup wizard.

Step 4: Read the software license terms and click "I Accept" to continue. This license agreement provides general usage information regarding the application. You must accept its terms to successfully install the software.

Step 5: Select whether to send general feedback to Microsoft regarding program improvements and general issues. Click "Join the Customer Experience Improvement Program" if you accept. Otherwise, click "I Do Not Want to Join the Program at This Time" and click "Next."

Step 6: Check the option to automatically enable the Windows Firewall during the installation procedure. A firewall helps protect your computer from unwanted Internet connections, thus minimizing the risk of potential infection. Click "Next" to proceed with the Microsoft Security Essentials setup.

Step 7: Read the warning message displayed, which reminds you to remove any existing antimalware program before proceeding.

Step 8: Click "Install" and allow several minutes for the procedure to finish. Press "Restart Now" to finalize the installation. Otherwise, click "Close" to restart your computer at a later time.

Step 9: Launch Microsoft Security Essentials once your computer has been restarted. If an Internet connection is detected, the program will be automatically updated. Updates ensure that the latest computer threats are detected and properly managed.
